Paper Possibilities

Berriboned Cake Stand
Measure and cut paper to cover the 5” Styrofoam disk. Secure paper with pins. Trace 10” foil-covered cake base top onto paper, cut out, and glue to foil top. With a hot-glue gun, secure Styrofoam disk to center of underside of cake top. Trim bottom edge of this paper using decorative scissors. Attach paper to rim of cake top with pins. Then measure, cut, and glue 2”W striped ribbon to top portion of paper-covered rim and bottom of disk. For large cake stand use a 12” foil-covered cake base top and 1/2”W ribbon.

Menu Holder
Trace a scallop-edged cake display board onto heavy-weight cream-colored paper. Cut and spray glue paper to board. Photocopy and enlarge a vintage-style postcard to 5” x 7”. Trim using decorative scissors. Lightly spray glue image and sprinkle mica flakes over entire surface. Shake off excess. Let dry before handling. Apply glue stick to three edges of back postcard (this will create pocket). Adhere to lower center of board. With hole punch, punch two holes near top edges of board, thread with red satin ribbon, and tie to chair back. Print the word MENU onto cream-colored paper and create a card. Write your menu inside and insert into pocket along with a sprig of faux berries.

Festive Shelves
Measure shelves and mark the length on a 3 1/2”W-4 1/2”W piece of heavyweight cream-colored paper. Turn a dessert plate or saucer upside down onto the edge of the paper and trace it halfway around. With a ruler, draw a triangle next to the circle. Alternate the saucer and triangle patterns across length of paper leaving a 1/2”W margin at the top so your two shapes connect. Cut out patterns then attach to shelf edges with double-sided tape.

Easy Gift Cone
To craft cones: Cut two 8” squares of same color but contrasting-patterned prepasted wallpaper. Wet backs of papers and press together; let dry. Trim edges with decorative scissors. Lightly spray glue two adjacent edges of paper and sprinkle with mica flakes. Let dry. Bring together remaining two sides of paper to form a cone: glue closed with a glue stick. Punch eight holes along joined sides. Thread and knot a ribbon at the bottom hole and continue threading upward; knot again. Tie a bow at top with a separate ribbon.

Holiday Trees
To create a baking-cup Christmas tree, drill a hole into the center of a 3” wooden disk. Insert a lollipop stick into the hole and secure with hot glue. Spread glue over top of disk, sprinkle with glitter; let dry. Cut an X into bottom of small to large baking cups. Insert lollipop stick through the largest cup, push to bottom of base, and hot glue in place. Slit next cup along one side and up to center to facilitate sizing. Wrap around bottom cup. Glue sides of slit cup together, then glue into place on “tree” to prevent shifting. Continue to hot glue subsequent cups in graduating sizes up to the top. For trim, hot glue 6mm tinsel-type colored pipe cleaners to paper-cup edges. Glue a bead to tree-top, cover bead with glue, then sprinkle with glitter.

Trimmings
Season’s greetings dress a feather tree. For ribbon garland: stamp, write, or print greetings onto cream-colored card stock; punch out an oval with an oval hole punch and cut others with decorative scissors. Punch holes in top and bottom of tags, thread with sheer ribbon, and suspend from tree branches. For postcard: photocopy 3” x 5” vintage-style Christmas postcard and reduce image to 2 1/2” x 4”. Cut out with decorative scissors leaving a white border. Finish the same as oval cards.
